KUALA LUMPUR: Former managing director of Felcra Training and Consultancy Sdn Bhd Rohaizat Ahmad has claimed trial to 33 charges of abuse of power in granting contracts to his relatives, involving more than RM1.64mil.
Rohaizat, 54, pleaded not guilty to all 33 charges in front of Sessions Court judge Azura Alwi on Wednesday (Sept 4).
All 33 charges fall under Section 23 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commision (MACC) Act 2009 and punishable under Section 24 of the same Act.
Under Section 24, an individual faces a prison term of up to 20 years and a fine of not less than five times the sum of the gratification or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction.
Rohaizat allegedly used his then-position as Felcra Training and Consultancy managing director to give contracts amounting to RM1.648mil in total to his relatives, who ha
ve interests in two companies, Al Maisan Enterprise and Hexa Tech Pride.
Rohaizat is accused of committing the offences at the Felcra Training and Consultancy office on Jalan Rampai Niaga here between April 2014 and June 2018.
MACC's Deputy Public Prosecutor Mahadi Abdul Jumaat asked for a bail of RM150,000 to be set for Rohaizat and for his passport to be kept by the court until the case was over.
Mahadi also asked the court to order Rohaizat to report to the nearest MACC office once a month until the case was over.
Lawyer Hamidi Mohd Noh, representing Rohaizat, asked for a lower bail of RM50,000, saying his client had a "meagre" income and had to provide for his family, including four children who were still studying.
Hamidi also said his client posed no flight risk.
Judge Azura set bail at RM80,000 with one surety and ordered Rohaizat to report to MACC headquarters in Putrajaya once a month until the case was over.
She also ordered Rohaizat to surrender his passport.
She fixed Oct 10 as the next mention date for the case.
MACC chief commissioner Latheefa Koya had on Tuesday (Sept 3) said Rohaizat was asked to be present in court at 8.30am, adding that he would be facing charges under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009.
Rohaizat was arrested on Sept 18 last year (2018) and was held in remand for five days.
The arrest followed MACC's raid on a Felcra Bhd subsidiary in Setapak here and the seizure of financial documents, including those related to training course contracts worth RM4mil.
